In accordance with state law, the Prince William County Democratic Committee has set up a process to choose its nominee for a Special Election to take place on April 9 in the Neabsco District to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Supervisor John Jenkins.
The Board of County Supervisors had originally voted for an April 2 Election. after the passing of beloved Supervisor Jenkins. The Board changed course at the last minuteon Tuesday, Feb. 19, and changed the election date to April 9.
When the new writ of election was signed today; Feb. 21, it triggered a five-day window for political parties to submit their candidates, according to Tonja James, acting chairman of the Prince William Democratic Committee.
Prince William Democrats choose their candidate for the Neabsco District supervisor’s seat at a Firehouse Primary set for this Sunday, Feb. 24. Primary voting will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department - Station 13, 13511 Hillendale Dr, Dale City, VA 22193. All registered voters willing to sign a Democratic loyalty pledge will be eligible to participate.
The Prince William Democratic Committee will hold a Meet and Greet/Candidates Forum on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the same location from 4 to 6:30 p.m. This will enable voters to hear from the candidates who file with the Party by noon on Feb. 23.
“We are working to ensure that our process is as transparent and inclusive as possible so that as many voters of Neabsco [as possible] can participate and have their voices heard,” said James in a news release.
