Fatal bicycle accident in Manassas city
Dr. Thomas Jefferson Grizzard Jr., 70, retired administrator of the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority, and a volunteer member of the Manassas City Utilities Committee, died on Saturday, June 24, at an area hospital from injuries sustained during a June 21 bicycle accident, according to a report from SPO Charles Sharp, police department spokesman.
Sharp’s report said that on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at about 0855 hours, Manassas City Police responded to the intersection of Godwin Drive at Ashton Avenue for a report of an accident with injuries involving a bicycle. The victim sustained serious injuries and was flown to a local hospital, the police report said.
On scene city police officers investigated the incident, and it was later determined that the cyclist struck the back of a sports utility vehicle which was stopped at the traffic light, according to the police report from SPO Sharp.
