Eye, organ and tissue transplants get boost from Manassas DMV employees

Manassas Department of Motor Vehicle Customer Service Center employees were recognized on Wednesday, June 28, by Donate Life Virginia for their outstanding support for organ, eye and tissue donation.

The local DMV beat 14 other locations throughout the state of Virginia for a Blue & Green Contest encouraging employees to wear their best blue and green attire to raise awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation.  Entrants were judged on the number of participants, use of blue and green, creativity, and enthusiasm for donation.  The Manassas DMV edged other competitors because of the volume of participants and originality.

Al Smith, a representative with Donate Life Virginia and the Washington Regional Transplant Community, said, “The Manassas DMV employees are such an amazing group of people.  They are true champions in leading the efforts of registering Virginians to become organ, eye and tissue donors.  Their support is insurmountable.”

More than 90% of Virginians register to become organ donors at their local DMV.  This makes the support of DMV employees vital for residents, empowering them to register, and say yes, to organ donation.  Currently there are more than 3,200 Virginians waiting for a life-saving transplant.  Only 60% of adults in Virginia are registered to be organ donors.
