Supt. Walts to present PWC school budget Feb. 7; public comments on budget to be taken Feb. 12

Prince William County Public Schools Superintendent Steven L. Walts will present the proposed Fiscal Year 2019 Capital Improvements Program/Budget (CIP/Budget) to the School Board at the Board’s regular meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 7. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the School Board meeting room in the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas. School finance officials will meet with the news media in the lobby adjacent to the Board meeting room following the budget presentation.

The budget presentation, and entire School Board meeting, will be broadcast live on PWCS-TV, at pwcstv.com, Comcast Channel 18, and Verizon Channel 36; and will be available on video-on-demand at pwcstv.com via the web after the presentation. The Superintendent’s PowerPoint slides will be posted online following his presentation to the School Board.

Public Meeting on FY 2018 Budget/CIP February 12

The public will have an opportunity to share their views on the proposed budget when Superintendent Walts and school finance officials present the proposed budget to the public on Feb.12 beginning at 7 p.m. in Room 1101 of the Kelly Leadership Center. Those who wish to speak at this public meeting need to sign up prior to noon on the day of the meeting by phone at 703-791-8709; or by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address); or at the door prior to 6:55 p.m. the evening of the meeting. Speakers will be limited to three minutes each.

School Board members will be present to hear public comment. Chairman Sawyers will preside over the public comment portion of the meeting that will follow the budget presentation. Budget Work Sessions

School Board budget work sessions will be held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 28 and March 8. A special work session for final markup on the FY 2019 CIP/Budget is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14 at 6 p.m.

Public Hearing March 21

An official public hearing is slated for Wednesday, March 21, following which the School Board is scheduled to approve the Proposed FY 2019 CIP/Budget. The School Board will then present its budget to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the McCoart Administration Building.
