April 1 Spring Recycle-Fest and shredding day in Manassas

The City of Manassas will mark Earth Day with a Spring RecycleFest on Saturday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Manassas Transfer Station, at 8305 Quarry Road, in Manassas.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average U.S. household generates more than 20 pounds of household hazardous waste per year. In 2016, City of Manassas residents dropped off more than 142 tons of recyclable material at nine household hazardous waste and electronic waste drop off days, according to Patty Prince. director of communications for the city.

During RecycleFest, city residents can drop of household hazardous waste, electronic waste and shred up to four boxes of paper documents, for free. Proof of residency is required and no commercial waste will be accepted.

Special recycling guest, Savers™, will be collecting gently used clothing, accessories and household goods.  Part of Savers’ proceeds will be donated the Martin K. Alloy Boys & Girls Club of Manassas.

The City of Manassas recycling program has received national recognition from Keep America Beautiful for a job well done, Prince noted.
