Saturday in the Park hands-on discoveries for children at Manassas Battlefield Oct. 10

Manassas National Battlefield Park will hold its second Saturday at the Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Brownsville Picnic Area, Groveton Road, Manassas.

Join park rangers as they host an array of free hands-on activities for children. These will include bird migration obstacle games, bird watching, nature journaling, TRACK Trail hikes, dip netting for macro-invertebrates and more. 

Take a hike along a short loop trail and stop at each activity station to discover something fascinating about the park and our local community.

The event will also feature local partners such as the Prince William County 4-H Club, the Sweet Virginia Foundation and Prince William Wildflower Society that will showcase hands-on activities to connect people to the outdoors and promote environmental stewardship and education.

The Saturday at the Park event is a part of a National Park Service Challenge Cost Share grant. 

The purpose of the grant program is to provide a means for the general public to learn about, explore and investigate the natural and historical treasure that is in their community.  This program hopes to introduce new audiences to the battlefield and give them an opportunity to enjoy and learn about the natural resources of the national battlefield park.

Events like Saturday at the Park, encourages the local community to find their park. The Find Your Park initiative is a public awareness and education campaign celebrating the milestone centennial anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016 and setting the stage for the next 100 years.
