Passionate rhythms and enchanting movement of flamenco dancing at Hylton Center Nov. 8

Compañia Flamenca José Porcel will bring the passionate rhythms and enchanting movement of flamenco dancing to the Northern Virginia area with “Flamenco Fire,” at the George Mason University’s Center for the Arts in Fairfax on Friday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. and at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m.

World-renowned flamenco star, José Porcel leads this troupe of some of the world’s most acclaimed flamenco dancers, instrumentalists and vocalists.

This breathtaking extravaganza represents the golden age of flamenco and showcases the purity and authenticity of this traditional art form.

A unique combination of music and dance with gypsy, Jewish, Arabic and Indian influences, flamenco features deeply emotional dances that are sometimes solemn and sometimes joyful.

Considered Spain’s premier flamenco dancer and choreographer, José Porcel was lead dancer with the renowned Ballet Nacional de España. Porcel was born in Sevilla, and at 13 began dancing Andalucian folkloric dances and flamenco in cultural centers in Valencia.

As premier dancer in the Ballet Nacional de España he interpreted “Farruca” (flamenco) and “Danza y tronío.” Porcel soloed in the company of Rafael Aguilar, in the role of Torero in “Carmen” during a major tour of Germany and Switzerland.

Among his many esteemed credits, he danced as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, under the direction of maestro Héctor Zaraspe.

He was the first dancer in the Compañía Española de Antonio Márquez, performing on tours around the world and at the Ópera de París for 20 sold-out performances, followed by a critically acclaimed tour of the United States.

Pre-performance discussions, free to ticketholders, will be held 45 minutes prior to each performance in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery at the Hylton Center and Grand Tier III at the Center for the Arts.

Ticket Information: Tickets to Compañia Flamenca José Porcel “Flamenco Fire” are $48, $41 and $29 per person.

George Mason University’s Center for the Arts Ticket Office
The Center for the Arts complex is located on George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus at the intersection of Braddock Road and Route 123. Tickets can be purchased in person at the ticket office, by phone at 888-945-2468, or online at cfa.gmu.edu.  Paid parking is located in the Mason Pond Parking Deck adjacent to the Concert Hall and free parking is located in university Lot K.

The Hylton Performing Arts Center Ticket Office
The Hylton Performing Arts Center is located on George Mason University’s Prince William Campus at 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas, Va., 20110. Tickets available at the Hylton Performing Arts Center ticket office, by phone at 888-945-2468, or online at HyltonCenter.org.  Ticket office hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Free parking is available in the lot next to the Hylton Center.
