Noted insect expert to discuss new book and wildlife preservation strategies Feb. 23

Professor and award-winning author Doug Tallamy will be speaking and signing copies of his new book “Nature’s Best Hope” on Sunday, Feb. 23,  from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Manassas Park Community Center, 99 Adams St., Manassas Park.

Tallamy, a professor at the University of Delaware in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology, as taught insect related courses for 39 years and authored 95 research publications.

His book “Bringing Nature Home” was awarded the 2008 Silver Medal by the Garden Writers’ Association. In his latest book, “Nature’s Best Hope” Dr. Tallamy explores the origins of our mistrust of wild places, the evolution of our interaction with the world around us and why it has led to the destruction of vast areas of habitat.

He then provides the steps to take to be sponsors and responsible hosts in our gardens, communities, towns and cities to support vanishing wildlife.
