Lauren Jacobs’ mixed media art now being shown at at NOVA-Manassas

Mixed media art by Lauren Jacobs will be on exhibition at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College from Jan. 5 to 30.

A lifelong lover of mythopoetic narrative, Jacobs uses surrealism to discuss links between body, emotion, wilderness and architecture in her art.

“In this discussion between person and place, I have collaborated often with environmental and community outreach programs and have been involved in wilderness studies and urban permaculture for over a decade,” she said.

Jacobs holds a bachelor’s degree in fine art with a double major in sculpture and fiber art from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a master’s of fine art from Cranbrook Academy of Art where she concentrated on fiber sculpture. She teaches fine and applied art courses at the Art Institute of Washington and Northern Virginia Community College. Her art has been shown in more than 50 exhibitions and can be seen at the Artist’s Undertaking Gallery where Jacobs is a co-op member.

A reception to meet the artist is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 25 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the exhibit space on the first floor of Colgan Hall.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Colgan Gallery is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

The campus is located at 6901 Sudley Road. For more information, contact Rosemary Gallick at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
