April 28 history program about Hindenburg survivor Joseph Spah, who lived his last years in Manassas
Gary Sarnoff will be making a presentation at the Bull Run Library, on Thursday, April 28, at 12:30 p.m., in Community Rooms A & B about a Hindenburg survivor who spent the final years of his life as a Manassas resident.
His daughter, a long time resident of Manassas, and who was present at the Hindenburg Crash in 1937, might attend my presentation.
The survivor was Joseph Spah, a acrobat and performer, who used his skills from the stage to survive the crash. He was later tabbed as a possible Hindenburg sabotage suspect. Later in life he had a small role in the movie Marathon Man.
Sarnoff will be talking about Spah’s life leading up to the crash, the history of airships, the crash on May 6, 1937 and Spah’s life after that day.
