Historian John Hennessy will lead four-hour hike along Jackson’s Line Nov. 3

Manassas Battlefield Trust is sponsoring a special four-hour hike-tour Nov. 3 led by historian John Hennessy, chief historian and chief of interpretation at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. The history outing will follow the entire length of Jackson’s line from Sudley Rd. to the Brawner Farm, a distance of about three miles.

Hike hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Arrive at 8:45 a.m. Wear sturdy shoes; take water and a snack; and wear bug repellent, MBT advises.

Along the route, history bug hikers will learn the nuances of the place and the intense bursts of combat along the Unfinished Railroad on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30, 1862. The hike will include a slight detour… to walk in the footsteps of Union soldiers during Porter’s Attack, the largest Union attack of the battle.

The tour will follow the unfinished railroad grade from Sudley Road to the Brawner Farm area. Registered participants will receive meeting location and parking details by e-mail closer to the event, a news release stated. The price for this exclusive tour is: $30 for members* and $45 for non-members, including a discounted one-year Private level membership.
