Play BEACON’s “Scrabble Scramble”  and support adult literacy on March 1

Community members are invited to participate in the first ever Scrabble® Scramble sponsored by BEACON for Adult Literacy.

The event will take place Saturday, March, 1 from 5-8 p.m. in the All Saints Catholic Church Parish Activity Center, 9800 Stonewall Road, Manassas.

This is going to be a very fun evening featuring a team based Scrabble® tournament, food, raffles, prizes and a cash bar!

A Scrabble® Scramble differs from the typical Scrabble® game as each table of four works together to get the best score in the room. You can buy a table yourself and invite three friends or split a table four ways!

Regardless, all of the proceeds will benefit BEACON, an adult literacy program for speakers of English as a Second Language in Prince William County.

Serving on the Board of Directors for BEACON has given me an appreciation of the impressive work done by our staff and volunteers.

Each year, we teach Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language to more than 400 adults, helping them to become proficient in the language, build life skills and become involved in the community.

We have expanded our services to include Citizen Preparedness, conversation, computer literacy, financial literacy and workforce development courses.

We want to ensure that all of these individuals can improve their English skills and literacy proficiency to become better parents, communicate with their children’s teachers, get jobs and then get better jobs, become smarter and less vulnerable consumers, acquire drivers licenses, become U.S. citizens and even vote for the first time.

I would greatly appreciate your joining me for this fun event on March 1.  For registration forms and any questions, please contact me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
