Woodbridge man dies after Horner Road crash

Crash – Fatality – On August 21st at 7:52AM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the 1600 block of Horner Rd in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a single vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that the driver, and only occupant, of a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta was travelling northbound on Horner Rd in the area above when the driver lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway striking a utility pole. The driver was transported to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries on August 23rd. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and speed was determined to be a factor.

The driver of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta was identified as Adam Dwight CALHOUN, 39, of Woodbridge

**INCIDENTS**

Commercial Burglary – On August 23rd at 9:03AM, officers responded to NOVA BMX located at 7 County Complex Ct in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a burglary. Staff reported to police that the burglary occurred between 6:00PM on August 20th and 8:30AM on August 23rd. The investigation revealed that someone entered the concession stand area on the property. There were no signs of forced entry. A cash register was reported missing.

**ARRESTS**

Sexual Assault Investigation – On August 25th at 1:00AM, detectives from the Special Victims Unit responded to investigate a sexual assault which was reported to have occurred at an apartment located in the 10500 block of Lariat Ln in Manassas (20109) on August 22nd between 5:30PM and 6:40PM. The victim, a 34 year old woman of Warrenton, reported to police that she went to visit the accused, a known acquaintance, at his residence in the above area. During her stay, the accused attempted to sexually assault her. When the victim attempted to leave the apartment, the accused restrained her and pulled her back inside, preventing her from leaving. At that point, the accused did sexually assault the victim before she was able to break free and lock herself in a bathroom. The accused eventually let the victim leave the apartment. The victim then contacted police on August 25th to report the incident. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Charged with abduction with intent to defile and object sexual penetration

Attempted Malicious Wounding – On August 24th at 9:00PM, officers responded to Sentara Lake Ridge located at 12825 Minnieville Rd in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a domestic. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 51 year old woman of Woodbridge, and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation while driving to the above location. Once there, the victim went inside the facility to receive treatment for an unrelated injury where the altercation continued. At one point, staff members asked the accused to leave. The accused complied and left without incident, eventually leaving the area on foot. Officers arrived and made contact with the victim. The vehicle both parties arrived in was blocking traffic and officers requested the victim move it to a parking space. When the victim got into the vehicle to move it, the vehicle became stuck in reverse position and accelerated backwards nearly striking an officer and a cruiser. Officers were able to control the vehicle to a stop and checked under the hood. The engine compartment appeared to have been tampered with and several wires were noticeably torn out of the vehicle. Officers made contact with the accused at his residence on Old Horner Rd. Following the investigation, the accused was determined to have tampered with the engine prior to leaving the vehicle in the parking lot. The accused was subsequently arrested.

Strong Armed Robbery | Assault & Battery – On August 22nd at 2:39AM, officers responded to the 7900 block of Sudley Rd in Manassas (20109) to investigate a disorderly call. A third party caller reported to police that a man and woman were seen arguing in a parking lot in the above area. Officers arrived in that area and observed a vehicle, matching the description of one involved, leaving the parking lot and exiting onto Sudley Rd. The vehicle suddenly stopped near Lomond Dr and the passenger, later identified as the accused, fled on foot. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as a 25 year old woman of Manassas, who reported that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation. During the altercation, the victim pulled into a parking lot where the accused began to assault her. At one point, the victim attempted to call 911 when the accused forcibly snatched the phone from her hands and struck her in the face. Minor damage to the victim’s vehicle was also noted. The victim attempted to drive to the police station with the accused in the vehicle when the responding officer was observed. The accused then fled the area and was not located. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the encounter. Following the investigation, officers obtained warrants for the arrest of the accused who was eventually arrested on August 24th.

Strong Armed Robbery | Credit Card Theft – On August 24th at 11:50AM, officers responded to the Fortuna Center Plz located in the 4100 block of Fortuna Plz in Dumfries (22025) to investigate a robbery. The victim, a 43 year old woman of Dumfries, reported to police that she was approached by an unknown man while getting into her vehicle in the parking lot of the above area. The man asked to borrow the victim’s cell and then grabbed the victim’s purse before fleeing on foot. The man was seen meeting up with another male suspect before running to the rear of the shopping plaza. No injuries were reported. A police K-9 was used to search for the suspects. Both males were located at a home on Ashmere Cir where they were identified as the accused and a 14 year old male juvenile. The investigation revealed that the accused was the suspect that approached the vehicle. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested. Charges are pending against the juvenile suspect involved.
