VDOT slates citizen info meetings in Fairfax and Manassas Park on quick fixes for VA 28

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) officials will tell the public about plans to study of Route 28 safety and operations in order to develop some short term traffic relief. The area to be studied is between Liberia Avenue in Manassas and south of Interstate 66 in Centreville, a distance of about 6.2 miles.

There will be two meetings—one this week and one next week—for residents to hear the plans.

This week’s meeting will be in Fairfax on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Centreville Elementary School,4330 Green Trails Blvd., Centreville, VA 20121.

Next week’s meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Costello Park Community Center, 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111.

Both meetings (to learn more about the study, talk to VDOT officials and look at maps) will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a brief presentation at 7:30 p.m.

VDOT, in conjunction with the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park and the Counties of Fairfax and Prince William, is undertaking the development of the study to collect traffic data to identify locations where low cost improvements may be made to the corridor.

Attendees can write comments on comment cards at both meetings or e-mail comments to meeting_comments @vdot.virginia.gov or submit them by Dec. 29, 2014 to Mr. Tom Fahrney, Project Manager at the VDOT District Office
address above. Please reference “Route 28 Corridor Study” in the subject line.

According to the project’s “brochure” on VDOT’s website the study will cost approximately $750,000 and VDOT projects that officials will be back in late spring or early summer with “final recommendations” for the quick fixes.

The Rt. 28 safety and operations study is identified as State Project: 0028-076-164, P101 and Federal Project: STP-5A01 (570) UPC: 105482.
