Three evacuated from April 8 apartment fire in Dale City

Prince William County Fire & Rescue units were dispatched to the 14200 block of Wilderness Lane in the Dale Forest Apartment complex for a report of fire in an apartment on Monday, April 8, at 7:57 p.m., according to Matt Smolsky, Assistant Chief – Fire Marshal.

Crews arrived to light smoke in the building, which all occupants had safely evacuated, Smolsky said.

A fire was discovered in an apartment and was quickly extinguished. There were no reported injuries. One apartment unit was declared unsafe to occupy by the building official. The Red Cross assisted the two adults and one child displaced from the impacted unit.

The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire to be a battery-operated scrubber that ignited nearby combustibles.
