Text, web and smartphone app now available to submit anonymous tips to PWC Crime Solvers

Prince William County Crime Solvers has launched next-generation anonymous tipline services for residents, businesses, and visitors to Prince William County.

Building on our nearly 35-year history of working with the public, media, and law enforcement to gather information useful to identifying and capturing wanted suspects or solving crimes, these new services will allow anyone with information about crimes and criminals to submit 100% anonymous tips via text message, smartphone app, or online, according to Sgt. Jonathan Perok, spokesman for the Prince William County Police Department.

As always, anyone with a crime tip may still contact the telephone tipline toll-free at 866-411-TIPS.

Regardless of whether a tip is submitted by text, web, app, or phone, tipsters can earn cash rewards from $100 to $1,000 dollars for tips that lead to arrests.

Frank Pappas, chairman of Prince William County Crime Solvers, was quoted in a news release as saying , “These new services greatly expand the ways in which the public can submit anonymous tips to Crime Solvers. They’re also designed to be more convenient and effective than phone tip lines; our tips-by-web, text, and app systems have been designed in light of social and technological changes that have influenced how people prefer to share information.”

The new services also bring enhanced capabilities for law enforcement partners, including the Prince William County Police Department and the Town of Occoquan Police Department. Investigators can communicate back-and-forth with tipsters to clarify tip information, ask follow-up questions, and ensure tips are thoroughly reviewed.

Of course, tipster anonymity is critical to the success of the Crime Solvers program, and any back-and-forth conversations – just like tips – are 100% anonymous, assured Sgt. Perok. Neither Crime Solvers nor law enforcement will ever know the identity of a tipster, and there are specific sections of the Virginia Code that further protect the anonymity of anyone willing to provide information to help investigators solve crimes and apprehend criminals, he added.

“We always encourage anyone with information about criminal activity in Prince William County to share tips through Crime Solvers,” said Perok. “By offering varying ways to submit tips, you are increasing the likelihood of receiving critical information that could help close a case or get a criminal off the streets.”
 
Tipsters can now submit crime information through http://pwccrimesolvers.org/webtips; by texting “PWC” plus a tip to 274637 (CRIMES); or by installing the “Tipsubmit mobile” app on any Android or Apple device. These new, progressive options, along with the 866-411-TIPS tipline, are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
