Supervisor Boddye to propose a Civilian Review Board for police department in Prince William County

Occoquan District Supervisor Kenny Boddye says that the time is right for creating a Civilian Review Board (CRB) in Prince William County.
“I have long supported civilian oversight of law enforcement agencies. Now, for the first time, the General Assembly has granted localities clear authority to establish these bodies,” said Boddye, referencing the recent passage of SB 5035.

“A Civilian Review Board will both increase accountability and foster additional trust between the Prince William County Police Department and the community it serves,” said Boddye in a news release. “I have spent the last few weeks in productive conversations with community leaders, our law enforcement and fellow Supervisors. Their insight and recommendations will be incorporated into my directive for County staff to begin the process of creating a CRB in Prince William,” the press release said.

The freshman supervisor previously chaired the Prince William NAACP’s Criminal Justice Committee, and continues to be a member of the Virginia State Conference NAACP Criminal Justice Committee.

Boddye could introduce the Civilian Review Board directive as early as Dec. 15, a press release said.
