Schools send LEGO teams to state competition

LEGO blocks seem to be the toys of choice for Prince William County elementary school students these days, where any students who want to get involved are welcome to join after-school clubs.There is more than meets the eye.

These are future engineers, mathematicians, and scientists who are getting in on the ground floor in the real world of robotics. FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams from King, Glenkirk, Coles, Penn, and Triangle elementary schools competed for a berth at the FLL state tournament held in December at James Madison University.

Coles Elementary, Penn Elementary and Triangle Elementary schools all won a spot at the state tourney. King Elementary School won the Robot Design Challenge and Glenkirk Elementary School won the Team Spirit Award.
