Register early to hear noted Australian horse farm expert

Jane Myers of Australia, noted author of several books about small horse farms, will headline an April 28 horse management workshop in Gainesville, presented by the Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Myers, author of Managing Horses on Small Properties and Small Horse Properties- A Management Guide. and recipient of the 2011 Winston Churchill Fellowship Grant will make a presentation from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bull Run Middle School in Gainesville. It will then be followed by an interactive workshop at PWSWCD’s model horse farm on Sudley Road in Gainesville, Oakwood Farm, also in Gainesville, from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Nicole Ethier, PWSWCD conservation specialist, who is organizing the event said, “We hope to have a well attended workshop in which we will be able to provide her [Jane Meyer] with a warm welcome and where you [attendees] will be able to meet with like-minded horse owners.”

Ethier said Myers’ presentation will focus on horse grazing behavior, mud management through vegetation, chore-efficient and effective property planning, etc. Following her presentation, the interactive workshops at the model horse farm will cover hot topics such as horse and pasture management, manure management, weed identification, and much more.

Cost for the workshop is $15/person.
