Regional MLK Youth Oratorical Contest on Jan. 16

Students in Prince William County Public Schools will participate in the Annual King Day Celebration and Youth Oratorical Contest on Monday, Jan. 16 at Hylton Memorial Chapel, 14640 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge. The event will begin at 11 a.m.

Over 25 students at schools throughout the region including Manassas and Mansssas Park will compete in early January at the regional level for a spot in the final competition. The final competition on the January 16 will feature six finalists—three middle school and three high school students.

This year’s theme is “What the World Needs Now…?” Students will write their speeches, revise them with the help of their school coordinators, and deliver them showing what our community has seen for over 25 years: students who rise to the challenge of showing their creativity, spirit of optimism, and knowledge about world events.

The program will also feature performances by the Martin Luther King Community Choir and an announcement of the winners of the writing contest for fourth and fifth grade students.

This program is hosted by the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and supported by each participating school and school division.
