PWPD Report for Tuesday, May 10, 2022 - Three more shooting incidents; 4 police officers assaulted

Incidents
• Shooting Investigation –
On May 9, 2022 at 7:36PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the MOTEL 6 located at 17133 Dumfries Rd. in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a shooting. The investigation revealed two residents of the motel were involved in a verbal argument in the parking lot. After a brief physical altercation, the two men eventually separated and returned to their rooms after being confronted by management. A short time later, a second encounter between the two men occurred at one of the party’s rooms. During that encounter, one of the residents, a 44-year-old man, reportedly displayed a knife and was shot by the other resident, who was identified as a 34-year-old man. Police were immediately called by witnesses to the incident.
Officers arrived at the motel and located the man who had been shot. The man was transported to an area hospital where he refused treatment. The man eventually returned to a hospital later in the evening to receive treatment where his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. The other party remained on scene and was not injured. At this time, the investigation continues pending consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office regarding possible charges.

• Shooting Investigation – On May 9, 2022 at 6:28PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 1400 block of Florida Ave. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shots fired call. Officers arrived in the area and located a 20-year-old man who reported to police that he was walking down Florida Ave. when a white sedan drove by him. As the vehicle passed, an occupant inside shot a round towards the man before the suspect vehicle fled the area. No injuries or property damage were reported. At this time, the incident does not appear to be random. The investigation continues.

• Reckless Handling of a Firearm – On May 6, 2022 at 8:45PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 2900 block of Williamsburg Ct. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shots fired call. Residents reported to police that gunshots were heard in the above area. The investigation revealed that two men were in the common area
between the townhomes when one of the men brandished a firearm and fired multiple rounds. Suspected bullet holes were located in the ground near the area where the shots were reported. Both men fled on foot prior to the police arriving in the area. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Suspect Descriptions:
• A black male last seen wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and pants, and carrying a firearm
• A black male last seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants

• Attempted Strong-Arm Robbery – On May 10, 2022 at 9:48AM, officers responded to the El Viajero Money Express located at 8551 Sudley Rd. in Manassas (20110) to investigate an attempted robbery. An employee of the business reported to police that an unknown man entered the business and approached the counter. During the encounter, the suspect demanded money from the employee who notified the police. The suspect fled the business on foot. No weapon was used or implied in the incident. A police K-9 searched the area for the suspect who was not located. No injuries were reported, and no property was reported missing. The investigation continues.
Suspect Description:
Hispanic male, between 20-30 years of age, approximately 5’8”, and 150lbs.
Last seen wearing a black ski-style mask, a black puffy-style jacket, white/red work-style gloves, dark jeans, and black/white sneakers

• Residential Burglary – On May 8, 2022 at 7:35PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the 12200 block of Stevenson Ct. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred sometime between 2:30PM and 4:30PM. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the home. An undisclosed amount of money and clothing were reported missing.

• Commercial Burglary – On May 10, 2022 at 3:33AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the TODOS Supermarket located at 16593 River Ridge Blvd. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate an alarm activation. When officers arrived at the business, the vestibule doors were found to have been pried open. Video surveillance revealed two men approached the doors and used a large pry-bar to force the doors open before entering the business. The men fled the building and got into a newer model dark-colored Dodge Charger. No property was reported missing.
Suspects’ Descriptions:
• Male, unknown race, 5’7’‘, 210lbs with a heavy build
Last seen wearing all dark-colored clothing, dark-colored shoes, and a “paintball” type mask with headlamp
• Male, unknown race, 6’3’‘, 170lbs with a thin build
Last seen wearing all dark-colored clothing, gray sneakers, and a black mask with headlamp

Arrests
• Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] –
On May 2, 2022 at 11:31PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 13500 block of Kaslo Ct. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a man reportedly running around the property armed with a handgun. Officers arrived in the area and located a man, later identified as the accused, who matched the description provided by the caller. Officers determined the accused was under the influence and unarmed. Officers requested medical personnel to the scene to evaluate the accused based on his behavior. The accused refused treatment by medical personnel and was detained.
At one point, the accused grabbed an officer before other officers intervened to detain him. While being escorted to a police cruiser, the accused became combative and refused officer’s commands. During the encounter, two officers were kicked by the accused while a third was head-butted to the chest. The accused was eventually secured. No injuries were reported.
Officers checked the area and located the firearm the accused had in his possession. Officers further determined the accused had damaged a table while he was initially running around the property prior to officers arriving on scene. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Cristobal ORTIZ, was arrested.

Charged with 3 counts of assault & battery on a LEO, 1 count of obstruction of justice, 1 count of destruction of property, and 1 count of public intoxication
Court Date: Pending | Bond: Held WITHOUT Bond

• Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On May 9, 2022 at 4:00PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 10600 block of Moore Dr. in Manassas (20111) to investigate a domestic. Officers arrived at the home and determined the altercation was verbal only between family members. One of the involved parties, identified as the accused, was determined to be intoxicated. When officers attempted to detain the accused, he became irate and actively resisted being taken into custody before swatting towards an officer, making contact with the officer’s ballistic vest. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as David Andrew BARTLEY, was arrested.

Charged with assault & battery on a LEO and public intoxication
