PWC Police report 2 officers assaulted during 3:30 a.m. traffic stop in Lake Ridge before Christmas

**ARRESTS**

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On December 20 at 3:30AM, an officer on routine patrol in the area of Old Bridge Rd and Springwoods Dr in Woodbridge (22192) observed a traffic violation on a vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. When contact was made with the driver, the officer smelt a strong odor of marijuana inside of the vehicle. The accused was subsequently detained and suspected marijuana was located inside of the passenger compartment. As the accused was being released on a court summons, he assaulted two officers. The accused was detained again without further incident. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Derrick Hutchinson SANDERS, was arrested.

Charged with 2 counts assault & battery on a LEO and possession of marijuana
