PWC Police and Fire Departments plan realistic training at closed Nokesville school

Fire crews or SWAT should not be cause for alarm if spotted swarming around the former Nokesville Elementary School in the weeks ahead. The now-closed school buildings and grounds will be used to provide realistic training to Prince William County first responders, enabling them to better serve all county residents.

Police Training is currently planned for October 2 and 10. Firefighters are scheduled to train at the old school on November 26 and December 9. Training will in daylight hours but some training will continue well after dark.

Both PWCS and public safety communications will highlight the nature of the activity before and during the trainings. Police and Fire Departments hope to avoid unneeded concerns about what unwarned residents might perceive as emergency situations. Signs will also carry the “Training” message.

The soon-to-be-training site, Nokesville Elementary, ended its long operation as a school last June. Students now attend The Nokesville School, a brand new K-8 facility nearby. Students walking to or from the new school may encounter the training scenes on their route. Parents and school personnel will strive to make sure they know there is no reason for worry.
