PWC Crime Report: May 29, 2023 - Triple homicide, attempted robbery at bus station, animal cruelty

INCIDENTS
• Triple Homicide Investigation –
On Friday, May 26, 2023 at 2:24PM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the 14700 block of Birchdale Ave. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a shooting. Upon arriving in the area, officers located a 37-year-old man outside of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers provided first aid until fire and rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the man dead.
While checking the residence, officers located three additional men inside the home also suffering from gunshot wounds. All three men were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
One of the victims, a 41-year-old man, later died at the hospital as a result of the injuries sustained during the shooting. The following day, a third victim, identified as a 23-year-old man, also succumbed to injuries sustained during the shooting. The fourth victim, a 21-year-old man, is expected to survive.
The investigation revealed a gathering was occurring at the home when one of the attendees brandished a firearm and began firing, striking the four victims. Other parties inside the home ran from the residence after the shooting, including the alleged shooter. No additional injuries or other property damage were reported. This incident does not appear to be random. Detectives are continuing to actively investigate the incident to determine what led up to the shooting and are seeking to speak with anyone who has information regarding this incident. More information will be released when available. The investigation continues.

The deceased were identified as Edwin Geovanny SALMERON, 37; Luis Alonzo SALGADO-RIVAS, 41; Kevin Josue VALLECILLO MENDOZA, 23, all of Woodbridge

• Shooting into a Residential Dwelling – On Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 3:49AM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to the Elevations One Apartments located the 1900 block of Stevens Rd. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a destruction of property. The investigation revealed at approximately 12:23AM, officers were called to the above area for reports of shots being fired before a vehicle quickly drove away. At that time no evidence of a shooting was located, and the witnesses refused to cooperate with the officers. Later that morning, officers were called back to the above area after damage was located to a glass pane above the front door of the apartment building. While checking the area, officers located a bullet fragment inside the apartment building. No injuries or additional property damage were reported.

Attempted Armed Robbery – On Friday, May 26, 2023 at 4:29PM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) bus terminal located at 14700 Potomac Mills Rd. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate an attempted robbery. The investigation revealed the victim, a 61-year-old man, was sitting at a bench when he was approached by an unknown man who brandished a knife and demanded property. When the victim refused to give the suspect his property, a second unknown man attempted to take the victim’s bag. The victim was able to retain his bag and contacted security personnel. No injuries were reported, and no property was reported missing. The investigation continues.
Suspect Descriptions:
A black male, between 5’8”-5’11”, with a thin build, and light complexion
Last seen wearing a white bandana, a black shirt, black pants, and white/black shoes
A black male, between 5’10”-6’0’, with a medium build and dark complexion
Last seen wearing a dark-blue jacket, gray pants with colored writing, and black/white shoes

ARRESTS
• Shooting into a Residential Dwelling –
On Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 8:55AM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the 13200 block of Nickleson Dr. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed the victims, a 57-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, were involved in a verbal altercation with a family member, identified as the accused, that escalated. During the encounter, the accused retrieved a firearm and fired multiple rounds throughout the home. After a brief struggle, the accused was disarmed, and police were contacted. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Bryant Anthony GILLIS, was arrested.

• Allowing Access to Firearms by Children – On Friday, May 26, 2023 at 7:05PM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to investigate a shooting that was reported to have occurred at the Westgate Apartments located in the 8000 block of Ashland Ave. in Manassas (20109) at approximately 6:35PM. The investigation revealed the victim, a 12-year-old male juvenile, was inside the apartment with his father, identified as the accused, when he was left unattended with a loaded firearm. The juvenile was handling the firearm when a round was fired from the weapon which then struck the victim in the leg. The accused contacted another family member who drove the victim to an area hospital where police were contacted. The victim’s injury was determined to be non-life threatening. No additional injuries or property damage were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Bryant Joseph WHITE, was charged.

•Strangulation | Abduction – On Thursday, May 25, 2023 Prince William County Police officers concluded an investigation into an assault that was reported to have occurred at the Dale Forest Apartments located in the 4300 block of Whitmer Dr. in Woodbridge (22193) on the evening of May 24. The investigation revealed the victim, a 22-year-old woman, was involved in a verbal altercation with an acquaintance, identified as the accused, that escalated.
During the encounter, the accused picked the victim up and slammed her to the ground. At one point, the victim attempted to use her phone to contact emergency services before the accused forcibly took the phone and grabbed the victim’s neck. The accused then physically prevented the victim from leaving the apartment. The parties separated and the accused left the residence. The victim reported minor injuries. Following the investigation, officers obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Jayman Lee SLOAN, who was taken into custody the following day without incident.

• Felony Animal Cruelty – On Friday, May 26, 2023 at 6:59PM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to The Stone Point Apartments located in the 14900 block of Potomac Heights Pl. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a domestic dispute. The investigation revealed the owner left her 3-month-old Siamese and Maine Coon kitten in the apartment with a family member, identified as the accused. When she returned later in the day, she located the kitten unresponsive in the bedroom. The investigation revealed at some point during the day, the accused kicked the kitten in the head multiple times. Animal Control Officers responded to the scene to take possession of the animal for further examination to determine the cause of death. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Frederick Grant PIERCE, was arrested.

•Attempted Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On Sunday, May 28 at 4:15AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the Stratford Condos located in the 11000 block of Koman Cl. in Manassas (20109) to investigate a domestic dispute. The investigation revealed the victim, a 60-year-old woman, and a family member, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated.
During the encounter, the accused bit the victim before the parties separated. The victim reported minor injuries. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as John Wellington MCCOY, was arrested. As officers were escorting the accused to a police cruiser, he actively resisted and attempted to bite the officer. The officer was able to avoid being bitten and re-secured the accused without further incident.
