PW Police Report for Monday, March 14, 2022: Police kept busy

Incidents
• Shooting Investigation – On Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 8:40PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the 3400 Flint Tavern Pl. in the Lake Ridge area of Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a shots fired call. The victim, a 40-year-old man, reported to police that he was visiting a residence when a family member’s dog, a 7-year-old pit bull mix, bit him. The interaction caused the victim to fall to the ground where the dog continued to bite him. At one point, the victim retrieved a firearm and fired a round, striking the dog. The victim was able to briefly separate from the dog and ran into the street where the dog followed. The victim fired additional rounds, striking the dog a second time. The dog then ran into the home and the police were contacted. Rescue personnel responded and treated the victim at the scene. The dog was transported to an area animal hospital where it was later euthanized as a result of the injuries sustained during the shooting. No additional injuries or property damage were reported.

• Felony Hit & Run Crash Investigation – On Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 5:26AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Cumberland Dr. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a hit and run crash. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2008 Audi A4, later identified as the accused, was traveling in the above area when the vehicle struck two unoccupied parked vehicles, a 2020 Toyota Corolla and a 2016 Ford F350. The Audi was rendered inoperable due to significant damage sustained during the crash. When officers arrived at the location, they observed one of the Audi’s occupants, a 15-year-old male juvenile, trapped in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Rescue personnel responded and extricated the juvenile from the vehicle before he was flown to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The accused fled prior to police arriving in the area. No additional injuries or property damage were reported. Following the investigation, officers obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Nestor Eduardo ALVARADO. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.

•Shooting into a Residential Dwelling – On Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:28PM, officers responded to the Bayvue Apartments located in the 1300 block of Bayside Ave. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shooting. The investigation revealed that gunshots entered an apartment occupied by a 21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man. During the encounter, the male occupant retrieved his firearm and fired rounds in the direction of the initial gunshots. The man initially left the location before he returned and encountered the officers. The man’s gun was turned over to police without incident. While investigating, officers were informed that a black Mercedes was seen fleeing the area after the shots were fired. No injuries were reported. The investigation revealed that three apartments sustained damage consistent with being struck by projectiles. Shell casings were located in the parking lot, on the sidewalks near the apartment building and near the entrance to one of the buildings. The investigation continues.

•Armed Robbery – On March 12 at 1:55AM, officers responded to the 7-Eleven located at 5041 Prince William Pkwy in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a robbery. A store employee reported to police that an unknown man walked behind the counter while brandishing a firearm. At one point, the suspect physically struck the employee with the firearm before taking money out of the registers. Video surveillance revealed that the suspect initially got out of a black sedan before entering the store and then got back into the same sedan before fleeing the area. The victim was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

•Strong-Arm Robbery – On Friday, March, 2022 at 3:25PM, officers responded to the 7-Eleven located at 10470 Sudley Manor Dr. in Manassas (20109) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed that an unknown man entered the store and began concealing merchandise. When an employee confronted the suspect, he began putting the merchandise on the counter. At one point, the suspect attempted to take some items off the counter leading to a brief struggle with a male employee. During the encounter, the suspect pushed a display rack onto the employee. The suspect then took the items off the counter and walked out of the store with an acquaintance who was present during the incident. The employee reported minor injuries.
Suspect Description:
A Hispanic male, between 20-25 years old, with black medium length hair, and a scraggly beard
Last seen wearing a black t-shirt, a multi-colored lanyard around his neck, Nike shorts over black leggings, low-tip Nike sneakers, and carrying a black backpack

Arrests
• Murder Investigation –
On Sunday,March 13, 2022 at 8:12PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 4000 block of White Haven Dr in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a stabbing. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 27-year-old woman, and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated while inside the home. During the encounter, the accused retrieved a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body. A witness to the incident attempted to render aid to the victim until rescue personnel arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The accused was detained by officers at the scene. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Rollanda Latavia GARRETT, was arrested.

•Rape Investigation – On Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:14AM, officers responded to a residence located in the Woodbridge (22191) area of Prince William County to investigate a sexual assault. The victim, a 16-year-old female juvenile, reported to police that earlier that morning she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance, identified as the accused. The investigation revealed that the accused entered the victim’s bedroom through an unsecured window. While inside the room, the accused grabbed the victim by the neck and sexually assaulted her before taking her phone and leaving the room. When the victim followed the accused to get her phone, the accused grabbed the victim and forced her into his vehicle before driving to his residence. The accused then forced the victim from his vehicle and into his bedroom where he again grabbed the victim by the neck before sexually assaulting her a second time. Eventually, the accused drove
the victim back to her residence. The victim disclosed the incidents to a family member who contacted the police. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Ivan Santiago GUZMAN VELASQUEZ, was arrested.

•Malicious Wounding – On March 10 at 2:10PM, officers responded to the Juvenile Detention Center located at 14873 Dumfries Rd. in Manassas (20112) to investigate an assault. The investigation revealed that a 61- year-old Prince William County Public School teacher was teaching when a juvenile resident of the facility,  identified as the accused, became agitated and struck the teacher multiple times. A staff member of the detention center quickly intervened and separated the parties. The injured teacher was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Following the investigation, officers obtained petitions for the accused, identified as a 16-year-old male juvenile, which were served on the accused who remained in custody at the Juvenile Detention Center.
