Prince William County rates 44 schools as Schools of Excellence

Receiving a “School of Excellence” flag is a source of great pride for a school community in Prince William County. Schools attain this designation by demonstrating high levels of performance— they must be fully accredited by the state, meet Virginia academic Annual Measurable Objectives, and achieve an overall score of 90 out of 100 points on PWCS Strategic Plan-based measures. This year, 44 flags will be handed out at Schools of Excellence celebrations to mark this achievement.

Maintaining this designation is not an easy task. The finish line that marks success moves each year, ensuring that schools never rest with their last accomplishments. In all, 37 elementary schools, five middle schools, and both traditional schools are named Schools of Excellence this year based on 2012–13 data. The categories of criteria are the same as last year.

Winning schools that have attained the distinction this year are listed below, with the number of repeated awards following the school name. This awards program began in 1999-00.
