Prince William County Police Report for July 22, 2022 - Arrest made in attempted carjacking

• Attempted Carjacking *ARREST –
On July 21, 2022 the suspect sought in connection to the attempted carjacking that was reported to have occurred at the Lynwood Shopping Center located in the 14400 block of Richmond Hwy in Woodbridge (22191) on July 2, 2022 was arrested. While investigating the incident, officers identified the suspect as Marcus Xavier CUNNINGHAM. On July 21, following the investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant for the accused who was served at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center where he is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges.

Attempted Carjacking [Previously Released] – On July 2 at 6:38PM, officers responded to investigate an attempted carjacking that was reported to have occurred at the Lynwood Shopping Center located in the 14400 block of Richmond Hwy in Woodbridge (22191) earlier that afternoon around 3:30PM. The investigation revealed the victim, a 47-year-old woman, left a business in the above area and had returned to her vehicle in the parking lot when an unknown man opened the unlocked passenger door and asked the victim for a ride. When the victim refused, the man climbed over the center console and attempted to push the victim out of the vehicle. A struggle ensued between the two parties before two bystanders intervened to assist the victim. The men got the suspect out of the vehicle where he then fled on foot. The victim left the area and returned to her residence where she contacted police. No injuries were reported, and no property was taken.

• Reckless Handling of a Firearm – On July 2, 2022 at 6:25PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 3600 block of Masthead Trl in Triangle (22172) to investigate a shots fired call. When officers arrived in the area, a shell casing was located along a path between two residences. The investigation revealed a group of young men were arguing in the alley along the path when one of the men brandished a rifle and fired a round. The shot prompted the group to disperse prior to police arriving on scene. No injuries or property damage were reported. The men in the group were only described to police as black males.

• Residential Burglary – On July 22, 2022 at 3:47AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 13100 block of Kirkmichael Ter in Bristow (20136) to investigate a burglary-in-progress. The investigation revealed the homeowner woke to the sound of glass breaking and immediately contacted police. Upon checking the home, a rear glass door was found ajar and shattered. No intruder was located, and no property was reported missing. A police K-9 searched the area for a possible suspect who was not located.
