Prince William County police involved in shooting in Yorkshire

Officer Involved Shooting – Currently, the Prince William County Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting which occurred in an area just inside Fairfax County.

Officers initially responded to a residence located in the 7600 block of Lake Dr in Manassas (20111) at 2:11PM to investigate a report of a trespasser.

The homeowner reported to police that she was on a back deck of the residence when her dog alerted her to an unknown man hiding in a bush on her property. After a brief encounter, the man fled towards a nearby creek and the homeowner contacted police.

When officers arrived, they observed the man walking along the creek area. The man brandished a crowbar and raised it towards the officers in a threatening manner.

The officers gave the man several commands to drop the crowbar which he refused. At that point, the officers sprayed the man in the face with pepper spray before he crossed the creek into Fairfax County.

The officers pursued the man and continued issuing several commands. During that encounter, the man turned and, in close proximity, faced officers while raising the crowbar.

Officers fired at the man, striking him in the upper body. The man was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive. No officers were injured in the incident.

The individual was identified as a 22 year old man of no fixed address.

The investigation continues and charges are pending. More information will be released when available. Fairfax County Police will be assisting in the investigation with Prince William County Police being the lead agency, according to a report from Sgt. Jonathan Perok, police spokesman.
