Paul O’Meara seeking GOP nod for Coles District supervisor

Paul O’Meara has announced that he is running for the Republican nomination in the Coles District for a seat on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

He will face incumbent Marty Nohe in the June 9 primary.

O’Meara has been an outspoken advocate for the county taxpayers in recent years during public transportation meetings and Supervisor sessions.

“I am unhappy with the direction of the county government. I am frustrated with overcrowded classrooms. We have the most overcrowded classrooms in the state and our students are falling behind because of the lack of proper priorities and spending,” said O’Meara.

O’Meara is a fiscal conservative who was born and raised in Prince William County and is a graduate of C. D. Hylton High School and George Mason University.

He said that he will “fight to keep taxes as low as possible “ and ensure that “our tax dollars go toward education, public safety and transportation.”

Funding class size reduction will be his top spending priority as well as working with the School Board to reduce the administrative cost and keep more money in the classrooms.

O’Meara is a Manassas businessman who is currently the vice president of a family-owned business. He is a past trustee of the Sudley United Methodist Church and a current member of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce.

If elected, he said he will advocate to move all meaningful board votes on budget and policy to evening sessions and “will expand the commercial tax and alleviate the tax burden on home owners.”

O’Meara said he is “deeply concerned about the direction of the county” and will work for the people to find efficient solutions without simply raising taxes year after year.

O’Meara lives in the Coles District with his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Harper.

He said the majority of the current problems facing the county stem from development, in particular the board’s inability to manage growth.

“This county has grown exceedingly fast, but has not provided the necessary infrastructure to offset that growth. Development in the county is a reality but needs to be done in a way that provides opportunity for redevelopment, brings jobs to our area and requires the developers to pay their fair share. There needs to be a proper balance between commercial and residential development,” he concluded.
