Oct. 16 conversation about ethics and the flu vaccine at Fauquier Health

Fauquier Health will host a “Conversation in Ethics: Mandatory Influenza Vaccination of Hospital Staff,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, in the Sycamore Room at Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton.

Speakers will include Dr. Joshua Jakum, pediatrician, and chairman of the Fauquier Hospital Bioethics Committee; Dr. Tam Ly, infectious diseases physician; and Lucy O’Grady, MSN, RN.

Dr. Jakum will address the ethical constructs of justice, autonomy, do no harm, organizational ethics, and patients’ rights.

Dr. Ly will discuss infection control issues, safety of the vaccine, and myths and truths about flu vaccines.

And Lucy O’Grady will talk about issues surrounding conscientious objection and refusal of the vaccination.

The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.
