Nov. 30 hearing set on new elementary school in Lake Ridge

Plans for a new elementary school proposed for a site off Chinn Park Drive in Lake Ridge will be discussed at a public meeting hosted by Prince William County Schools’ Office of Facilities Services, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., at Beville Middle School, 4901 Dale Boulevard, Woodbridge.

Population growth and resulting overcrowding have shifted the need for a new elementary school serving the eastern part of the county to an area centered on Prince William Parkway, according to a news release from Prince William County Schools. The new school would be completed in September, 2018 and is planned to relieve overcrowding specifically at Vaughan and Westridge elementary schools and generally at other area schools, the news release stated.

Now identified as the “PW Parkway” Elementary School, the new school had been described as “Elementary School East (Neabsco Mills Area)” in the School Division’s Capital Improvements Program (CIP) for Fiscal Years 2016-25. The plan changes regularly in response to changing needs, the news release said.

The CIP provides general guidance over a ten-year period to address the demand for new schools, additions to existing schools, site acquisition, school renewal, upgrading, and maintenance of PWCS infrastructure. The plan is reviewed and updated annually, with long range plans adjusted to reflect the latest enrollment projections and financial limitations.
