Manassas City Police Beat 1/3/12

Hit & Run
Manassas City police officers are investigating a Hit & Run incident that occurred in the 9900 block of Liberia Avenue, on Jan. 1, 2012, at approximately 2:10 a.m. The victim advised officers that she was traveling West on Liberia Avenue, when a black Lexus SUV, displaying Virginia license tag number XNS-9862, swerved into her lane and struck her vehicle. The SUV was driven by a black female at the time of the incident. Damages to the victim’s vehicle were estimated at approximately $500. This is an ongoing investigation.

Larceny
Sometime between 6 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2011 and 1 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2011, someone(s) stole a blue “ipod nano” from a vehicle that was parked in 10300 block of Abbott Road. It is not known if the vehicle was secured at the time of the theft. The item was valued at approximately $150.

Residents are reminded not to leave anything of value inside their vehicles and to always keep their vehicles locked. Larceny Arrest
On Dec. 28, 2011, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Manassas City police officers were called to Shoppers’ Food Warehouse, located at 9540 Liberia Avenue, regarding an intoxicated male passed out in the establishment’s restroom.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they found Todd A. Shepherd, 44, of no fixed address, listening to music in the restroom. Further investigation revealed that Shepherd was highly intoxicated and had eaten food belonging to the store, while inside the restroom, without paying for the items. Mr. Shepherd was placed under arrest and charged with Public Intoxication and Felony Larceny. The larceny was upgraded to a felony due to Shepherd’s past criminal history. He was held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center on a $2,000 bond. His court date was set for Jan. 19, 2012.

Domestic Assault Arrest
On Dec. 30, 2011, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Manassas City police officers were summoned to the 9200 block of Byrd Drive, regarding a domestic assault. Upon the officers’ arrival, they were advised by the victim that she and her mother had been assaulted by another family member, Sophia Andrea Jackson, 26, and that Ms. Jackson had vandalized several of the victim’s residential windows.

Ms. Jackson was not in the area the officers arrived but was located a short time later, intoxicated, near Grant Avenue. Officers attempted to interview Ms. Jackson but she became verbally combative with them.

Sophia Andrea Jackson, of no fixed address, was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Domestic Assault, Felony Vandalism and Public Intoxication. She was held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, on a $2,500 bond. Her court date was set for Jan. 24, 2012.
