Traffic shifts are planed this weekend as part of the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge project
Lane closures will occur, weather permitting, along northbound I-395 Saturday night, Oct. 21 and along southbound I-395 Sunday night, Oct. 22 at the Shirlington Circle interchange (Exit 6) to implement traffic shifts, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Multiple-lane closures (at least one lane will be open at all times) along the northbound I-395 general purpose lanes at the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge will take place between 11 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday in order to temporarily shift the lanes to the left.
Multiple lane closures (at least one lane will be open at all times) along the southbound I-395 general purpose lanes at the bridge will take place between 11 p.m. Sunday and 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23 in order to temporarily shift the lanes to the left.
These traffic shifts are scheduled to be in place until mid-2024.
The shifts are part of the project to rehabilitate the Shirlington Circle south rotary bridge over I-395. The project, which will improve safety for drivers and extend the overall life of the bridge, is scheduled for completion in mid-2025.

Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
