Hazmat crews set up environmental defense after oil found on stream in Manassas

Prince William County hazmat crews smelled petroleum and saw a suspected petroleum product in the tributary feeding into Lake Linden, a storm water management pond, off Williamson Blvd. in Manassas this morning, according to a news release from Prince William County Fire & Rescue.

Crews remain on the scene for an undetermined amount of time working in collaboration with Virginia Department of Emergency Management Hazardous Materials and Virginia DEQ.

Hazmat crews “are currently engaged in environmental defensive measures,” the news release stated.

Crews were dispatched about 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10 at approximately 7 a.m., to the stream, which is located near Coppermine Road.

the Fire Marshal’s Office is actively investigating the incident.  There were no reported injuries and the incident poses no immediate threat to the public, the news release went on to say.
