Fauquier schools change spring break week and makeup days for 2018
At its June 13, 2017, meeting the Fauquier County School Board approved two revisions to the school year 2017-2018 calendar, which the board originally approved in January 2016.
The week of spring break is changed to March 26-30, 2018, one week earlier than originally designated.
The change aligns the FCPS spring break with that of the majority of surrounding school divisions and allows for employees to be off on Good Friday, a request made through the superintendent’s Advisory Committee for Educators and Staff (ACES).
The order of make-up days is changed. The first makeup day, if needed, will be Monday, Feb. 19, President’s Day, and the second makeup day will be Wednesday, March 14, a parent-teacher conference day. Makeup days three and four will be May 30 and 31.
The February/March days were flip-flopped with the May days to provide more instructional value and to allow for an earlier end to the school year in the unlikely case of another mild winter.
The board also authorized the superintendent to make additional changes to the calendar throughout the year, if needed, without board approval.
