Fatality after vehicle crash on US 29 on Oct. 14

Crash – Fatality – On October 14th at 9:54PM, Prince William County Police Department investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Lee Hwy near the I-66 overpass in Gainesville (20155) to investigate a vehicle crash, according to Officer Jonathan Perok, spokesman for the police department.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2011 GMC Denali was making a right turn onto Lee Hwy from Linton Hall Rd when the vehicle struck the driver of a 1992 Honda Accord who was making a left onto Lee Hwy, according to the police report.

Following that collision, the driver of the Denali continued northbound on Lee Hwy at a high rate of speed and eventually lost control. At one point, the vehicle became airborne and struck a concrete pillar to the I-66 overpass, the police report said.

The driver was transported to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. The other vehicle did remain at the scene, no injuries were reported. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash. The investigation continues, the police report said.

          Identified:

The driver of the 2011 GMC Denali has been identified as Grant Austin CHRISTENSEN, 39, of Gainesville

The driver of the 1992 Honda Accord was identified as a 55 year old man of Maryland
