Deborah Wright now PW Library System director

The Prince William County Library Board of Trustees Feb. 23 announced that Deborah Wright is the new Library Director for the County’s Public Library System.

Wright has 14 years of experience in the Prince William Public Library System, including two years as the Assistant Library Director where she oversaw public services in 11 branches and had direct supervision of the branch administrators. Wright previously worked at the Prince William Public Library System as well as the Prince William County Schools before moving to the Newport News Public Library System serving as a Branch Administrator, and a Family and Youth Services Coordinator. She then made her way back to Prince William becoming the Branch Administrator for Chinn Park Regional Library.

“Deborah is a tremendous asset to our library system,” said Brian Murphy, Chairman of the Prince William Library Board of Trustees. “She has 24 years of management experience that she brings to the organization. We have also had the opportunity to observe her ability to facilitate staff improvements, and her skills in organizational planning are key to helping the library system continue to thrive in the community.”

“Libraries play such an important part of the quality of life in communities, and Prince William County, and the cities within our system, has one of the best library systems around,” Wright was quoted as saying in a press release. “I’m excited to serve this community at a remarkable library system, in this position, and to continue moving this system toward a vibrant, visible and valued part of the Prince William area.”

Wright received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Roanoke College and her Master of Science degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina. She is also a member of the Virginia Library Association, and the American Library Association.
