Congressman Wittman invites teen artists’ submissions for Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) is accepting entries for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition from high school artists living in Virginia’s First District, which includes part of Prince William County.

All high school students living in the district are eligible to enter their work in the competition by the April 25, 2014, submission deadline.

“So many students in Virginia have the creative mind to create something unique and meaningful, and this competition gives a chance for students to share their talents in our nation’s capital,” Wittman said.

“I look forward to seeing this year’s submissions and urge students to consider this great opportunity to develop their skills and share their talents with a global audience.”

Each spring, a high school art competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute and by each Member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.

Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nation-wide competition.

The winning entry from the First District will be displayed with other winners from Congressional districts across the country in the tunnel connecting the Cannon House Office Building and the U.S. Capitol, a year-long display which is part of the main tour route of visitors to Capitol Hill.

All other student submissions will be displayed in Congressman Wittman’s district officesin Stafford, Tappahannock, or Yorktown for one year.

All entries submitted must be original in concept, design and execution. Entries should be directed to one of Rep. Wittman’s district office locations by Friday, April 25, 2014, in order to be eligible for judging.  District office address details are available at http://www.wittman.house.gov.

Rules and submission forms are available at http://www.house.gov/content/educate/art_competition/ .

Congressman Rob Wittman serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee where he is the chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
