Comstock votes against NLRB implementing elections rule

Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) issued a statement on the passage of a joint resolution to prevent the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) from implementing its elections rule that shortens the time frame for union elections and compromises the privacy of American workers. The House passed the legislation with a vote of 232 to 186:

“The NLRB is out of control and no longer even pretends to be the neutral agency it is supposed to be.

“The NLRB ruling to rush union elections harms the employees that unions are trying to represent and invades their privacy by releasing personal information such as addresses, work schedules, emails, and phone numbers to union bosses.

“These ‘ambush elections’ are the latest example of government overreach which has become the norm for the Obama Administration.

“To speed-up union elections without allowing employees the opportunity to hear from both sides and review the information creates a sham election and goes against the spirit of the law.

“I am proud to represent a right-to-work state where workers have the freedom to choose whether to join a union or not. Virginia is a state where businesses and their employees work together to solve their problems and grow economic opportunity for all.”
