Cedar Point first-graders get passports

The first-grade teachers at Cedar Point Elementary School help students understand traditions from other cultures by taking them on an adventure around the world to celebrate Christmas traditions; their trip is set for 2-3 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 14.

Though not all countries celebrate Christmas, the teachers Andrea Morgan, Bridget Kiernan, Beth Fredette, Nancy Kulak and Chrissy Johnson select similar celebrations to share with their students. Morgan said the plans fulfill Standards of Learning about teach ethnic diversity and cultures and customs.

The group of teachers select different countries every year. This year, Morgan selected Wales, since she is from that country. Other teachers chose their countries for various reasons.

Parents will fill out a passport application and students will receive a passport that will be stamped as they move from country to country in each classroom.
