Justin Wilk elected PWC School Board vice chairman

The Prince William County School Board elected Justin David Wilk, Potomac District, to a one-year term as the vice chairman of the board Jan. 2, 2019.
He replaces Lillie Jesse, Occoquan District representative, who had been vice chairman for several years. The School Board recently changed its by-laws so the vice chairman serves a one-year term and cannot succeed himself or herself.

Wilk began serving on the School Board in January 2016. According to a PWCS news release, he is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education, earning a master’s degree in public education leadership. He received his bachelor’s degree in political theory and constitutional democracy from Michigan State University. He is a former member of the Prince William Education Association, and an active member of the Prince William Federation of Teachers and the Virginia AFL-CIO.

Wilk began his educational career in Prince William County Public Schools in 2008 as a seventh grade civics and economics teacher at Woodbridge Middle School. He was chosen to help pilot Prince William County Public Schools’ same gender teaching program. During his three years at Woodbridge, Wilk served as a football and track coach, and the advisor to the school drama program. He also taught three years at Gainesville Middle School.

He is currently employed at K12 Insight, a private company that works with school leaders to build stronger relationships with parents, teachers, students, and staff. He is married to Lori Spitzer-Wilk, a teacher at Forest Park High School. They have two sons. Wilk is a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Woodbridge.
