Free Innovation Day workshop for educators Jan. 12 in D.C. area

National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) invite Washington, D.C.-area teachers and school district officials to attend an “Innovation Day” professional development workshop focused on inquiry-based learning.

The free workshop open to area educators will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the USPTO’s Madison Building, located at 600 Dulany St. in Alexandria.

Highlights of the event, designed to raise awareness of the importance of early exposure to innovation and invention, include:
Hands-on breakout sessions where attendees explore gaining access to instructional strategies that foster and promote an innovative and creativity-based classroom and collaboration with fellow educators on how to incorporate these strategies to develop skills that promote critical thinking and creative problem solving.

There will be a tour of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum and a keynote address by Alois Langer, 2002 NIHF Inductee and inventor of the implantable heart defibrillator, a news release said.
