Apply by March 17 to be interim School Board chairman for Prince William County

The Virginia Code requires the School Board to appoint an Interim Chairman within 45 days of the vacancy. The interim appointee will then perform all duties of the Chair until the position is filled in a November 2018 special election. The School Board plans to vote on the interim appointment on April 18.

The Chairman-at-Large helps preside over Board meetings; signs legal documents, as authorized by the Board; leads agenda-setting meetings; and, along with other members, represents the School Board in events and coordination with government, and other organizations.

Applicants must be eligible voters and residents of Prince William County.

Apply for the interim appointment by filling out the Application for Interim Chairman, providing a complete resumé, and submitting the materials and attachments to the Clerk to the School Board, on or before 4:30 p.m., March 17, 2017.

The application form is also available in hard-copy from the School Board Office, Room 3400, Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas. Those delivering applications should do so by March 16, as the School Board office is not open on the Saturday of the submission deadline.

A public hearing on Prince William County School Board’s interim appointment will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, in the School Board meeting room at the Kelly Leadership Center. Residents may sign up to speak at the hearing by contacting the Clerk to the School Board by telephone or email, no later than noon on the day of the hearing.

Would-be speakers may also sign up in person from 6-6:55 on the evening of the meeting.

Each speaker will be provided up to three minutes to make comments. Applicants for the position are also invited to speak for up to five minutes. Only those whose names are considered at the public hearing will be eligible for appointment as the interim School Board member.
