Prince William County students’ ACT scores highest in five years

PWCS student results on the ACT are trending upward. The newly released 2016-17 scores are the highest in five years for all of the tested areas as well as the composite score.

English, mathematics, reading, and science scores for Prince William County Public Schools students all exceed national averages. In addition, the PWCS composite score exceeds the national average on the ACT exam for the 22nd consecutive year and come in slightly below the state for the college-readiness assessment. The PWCS composite score for 2016-17 was 23.2 on the 36-point scale; that beats the national composite score by 2.2 points.

ACT scores assess high school students’ general educational development and ability to complete college-level work. Unlike an aptitude or reasoning test, the ACT is designed to be an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The ACT consists of multiple-choice questions.
