Food collection for needy for Thanksgiving begins in Prince William area

Prince William County Public Schools are now accepting donations for the annual Operation Turkey food drive for the needy for Thanksgiving.

Drop off your donation of non-perishable food to your nearest school.

Northern Virginia Family Services/SERVE and ACTS, two nonprofit organizations in the western and eastern ends of the county, respectively, will pick up and distribute the baskets during the weeks prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Food collection deadlines are October 25 (eastern schools/central office) and November 16 (western schools).

Suggested non-perishable food items include canned vegetables, stuffing, gravy in packets or jars, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, muffin or biscuit or cornbread mix, pie crust mix, canned pumpkin, potatoes, rice, pasta and sauces, mac & cheese, applesauce and canned fruits, coffee and tea, soups and broths, peanut butter, jelly, boxed desserts, flour and sugar, jello and pudding.
