This could be a money-saving weekend if you take advantage of Virginia’s “sales tax holiday”

Virginia’s annual “sales tax holiday” is taking place this weekend, through Sunday, August 6th, according to a reminder from Del. Richard Anderson of Woodbridge (R-51).

Anderson said, “The sales tax holiday allows consumers to purchase qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products without paying sales tax. This includes qualifying items purchased online, by mail, or over the phone.”

The delegate provided this list eligible items for the sales tax holiday:
School supplies, clothing, and footwear
Qualified school supplies - $20 or less per item
Qualified clothing and footwear - $100 or less per item
Hurricane and emergency preparedness products
Portable generators - $1,000 or less per item
Gas-powered chainsaws - $350 or less per item
Chainsaw accessories - $60 or less per item
Other specified hurricane preparedness items - $60 or less per item
Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products - Qualifying Energy Star™ or WaterSense™ products purchased for noncommercial home or personal use - $2,500 or less per item

There is no limit on the number of items you can purchase tax-free, as long as each item qualifies, he added.
