School population grows 1.9 percent - up 1667 more Prince William County students than in 2015

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) official enrollment is 88,920 students for the 2016-17 school year. Enrollment grew by 1,667 students, or 1.9 percent from the previous year. The new growth figure eclipses the 1.2 percent increase seen the previous year by more than 600 students.

PWCS is the second largest school division in Virginia, with one hundred schools and education centers. It is the 35th largest among more than 16,000 school systems nationwide.

The student membership counted in Virginia schools on September 30 is the official number reported to the State Department of Education. The numbers are used for a variety of purposes, including student membership studies, enrollment projections, budget allocations, state and federal financial aid calculation, and facilities planning.
