VDOT on alert for spring snow and ice today, tonight, tomorrow in Northern Virginia

The Virginia Department of Transportation asks drivers to be alert to possible icy conditions this weekend. An early-spring rain and snow coupled with low temperatures, particularly early Sunday morning, could impact roads.

This evening, about 480 trucks will be on duty in northern Virginia to treat roads as needed.

In most locations, crews will not use anti-icing materials ahead of the storm, with rain expected prior to snowfall.

Drivers are encouraged to lower speeds, allow extra time to reach destinations, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.

Crews are also monitoring the forecast for Sunday night.

VDOT’s Northern Virginia District includes Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William and Arlington counties (Arlington maintains its own secondary roads).
