Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) voted Feb. 2 in favor of H.R. 3662, the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act. The measure would enhance Congress’s oversight role and prevent the President from removing individuals and entities from a restricted list maintained by the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Control until the Administration has certified that those individuals and entities are no longer financing terror, abusing human rights, or involved in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
“This Administration has proven time and again that it is willing to resort to secrecy—even as it jeopardizes our national security—in order to maintain a narrative that justifies its nuclear agreement with Iran,” Wittman was quoted as saying in a press release. “Our ability to cut off funding for terrorist organizations is one of our most important weapons in the fight against terrorism. In a sometimes dangerous and complex world, Congress and the American people deserve to know when and why known terrorists and human rights violators are no longer being monitored.”
