VDOT to close two U.S. 29 lanes in each direction on Aug. 20-21

Only one lane will be open on U.S. 29 in Gainesville on Aug. 20 and 21. The Virginia Department of Transportation expects to close two lanes in each direction on 29 in Gainesville between Interstate 66 and Linton Hall Road from 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 until 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21.  One lane in each direction will remain open for the half-mile stretch.

Detours, on I-66 and U.S. 15, revealed by posted message boards, may help motorists wind their way around the expected delays.

The 17-hour closure of the lanes is needed so crews can extract a 32-ton, 16-foot-long boring machine from the construction area. The machine, according to
VDOT, became wedged below the roadway during construction work for the U.S. 29-Linton Hall Road improvement project.

Information on the project as a whole is on VDOT’s website:  http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/northernvirginia/gainesville_improvements.asp .
